This initiative was created with the purpose of introducing wikispaces to English teachers in Concord High School. The goal was to enhance overall achievement and educational experiences by using the wikispace as a home site for the teacher to share with the student and family. Furthermore the wikispace would develop technological ability and increase student success. The need for a wikispace initiative was realized through a survey created to rate the understanding and use of technology within the English department. The results clearly showed a positive attitude toward the initiative along with a belief it would greatly increase student achievement. Wikispaces were chosen based on the current technology offered within the school. Additionally, wikispaces are the best option for the English department because of cost, current technology usage and the reality of our student population. By clicking on the either link below you will be brought to an example of a teacher wikispace being used as a home site. While not all of the files and assignments are placed in the site, you can see the basic outline and design this offers a teacher, student or family.In the first example you will notice the teacher is going to use the wiki site as a home page for the entire school year.They would list everything on the site with each unit only receiving one page.All of the information for the entire unit would have to be on that one page as all other pages would cover other aspects of the course for the school year.In the second example the entire wiki consists only of one unit.Once the student joins they are good to go for that unit, but if we begin a different unit they will need to join that wiki.Here the teacher is creating a different wiki for each unit, but the entire wiki is dedicated to that unit and offers pages specifically for each part of that individual unit.The desired outcome for either wiki style is for the staff to use this aspect of technology to help further the educational cause.
